New Mexico Ski Vacation

December 17, 2012 in Blog

"ski cloudcroft" "new Mexico" vacationNow that the winter weather has finally made an appearance, the holidays finally feel like they’re in full swing. Christmas is about a week away, and it could very well be a white one; hopefully the snow cooperates and the sky dumps a ton of great powder on the slopes. After all, while I appreciate the snow in Cloudcroft because it’s beautiful, I also appreciate it because it’s fun.

Winter vacations in Cloudcroft are great when there’s a lot of powder on the mountain because we have access to several nearby ski resorts and we’re not too far from Ruidoso. Skiers and boarders are in for a treat—“America’s southernmost ski resort”, Ski Cloudcroft, is about a 10 minute drive from town, and it offers several great slopes for quick runs, making it perfect for half-day lift-tickets if you happen to sleep in. Ski Apache, about an hour up the road in Mescalero, is one of the top resorts in the country, with a wide variety of runs for all skill levels. While all the resorts have rentals available, you can also rent equipment from a number of outfitters in Cloudcroft, advantageous if you plan on skiing for a week.

Taking a week to enjoy winter sports in Cloudcroft is a fantastic way to spend some vacation time, and while there are plenty of great hotels and motels (and a Holiday Inn in Alamorgordo), you should really do it right and rent a cabin. Renting a cabin for your New Mexico ski vacation lets you live here for a little bit, rather than the compartmentalized short-term stay in a hotel room. Imagine "cloudcroft new mexico" winter vacationcoming home from a day of snowboarding and digging into the chili you’ve had simmering in the crockpot all day, maybe uncorking a bottle of wine or cracking open a few ice-cold beers, perhaps putting an ice cold beer on a swollen ankle or knee! When you and your family or a group of friends have a cabin for a week, you get a chance to really relax and hang out, rather than merely cramming into a room with two double beds and watching hotel cable until it’s time to get up and ski again.

The ski season in Cloudcroft, like anywhere else, is dependent on what the weather does, so when the snow arrives, you might as well live it up in a cabin, and enjoy the season to the max. Have a great Christmas and New Year! We hope to see you soon!

Holidays in Cloudcroft New Mexico

December 2, 2012 in Blog

Well, now that Thanksgiving has come and gone, have you started your diet or workout regimen? If you’re like the Amigo staff, you’ll probably start it… tomorrow. Just kidding! We’ll get around to it eventually, but with the holiday season in full swing, there’s so much shopping, baking, and visiting to do that the treadmill might get a little underused. That’s okay, because Christmas in Cloudcroft is plenty fun even if you end up with a few extra pounds or an inch or two on the waist.

One thing we look forward to at the beginning of every holiday season is the annual Lighted Christmas Parade and Tree Lighting on Burro Street. Burro Street is the scene for many of our little village’s seasonal events, but the Christmas Parade and the tree lighting are "christmas cloudcroft" "holidays in new mexico"by far the most spectacular.     This year, be sure to get a spot on Cloudcroft’s main drag by 7pm on Saturday, December 8th for the start of the parade—if you get there at 5pm, there will be refreshments available, too.

The tree lighting is one of the best parts, too. Your family members are welcome and encouraged to bring ornaments for the tree, and if you have young children, this is one of those great family memory moments you don’t want to miss. With the parade, the Christmas tree and all the caroling in between, the start of Cloudcroft’s holiday season is a must-do, and just another fun thing that makes living "holidays in cloudcroft" "new mexico vacation"or vacationing in Southern New Mexico truly spectacular.

And speaking of vacationing, if you’re from out of town and are looking for a winter vacation or getaway in Cloudcroft, don’t hesitate to give Amigo Realty a call. We have some cozy cabins and vacation homes for rent, lease and sale, and we’d love to meet you this holiday season.

This year, despite temperatures dropping down to the middle 30s at night, we have yet to have enough moisture and to match the freezing point. While skiing, snowboarding, sledding and all the other snow-centric pastimes might be a week or two later than normal, but we’re not worried. The snow always comes, and before too long we’ll be packing more of it into the belly of another giant snowman in the front yard.
